BBQ at INF 329 in July
In July, the COS labs located in INF 329 including the Holstein lab, the Grossmann lab, the Johnston lab, the Evers lab and the Guse lab took advantage of the beautiful summer in Heidelberg and had a BBQ on campus.
EMBO Conference: New Model Systems linking Ecology and Evolution
The Guse lab introduced Aiptasia as a novel model system to study coral symbiosis at the very timely EMBO conference on: New Model Systems linking Ecology and Evolution held at the EMBL from May 1st to May 4th 2013. The talk about Aiptasia was part of the last session of the meeting entitled “Interactions and Ecosystems”. The meeting was very well attended with excellent invited speakers and gave a good overview on the status of the field. The food at EMBL was fantastic too. Seminar Liz Hambleton, Stanford University
Liz Hambleton from the Pringle Lab at Stanford University was visiting the lab as a guest scientist and gave a seminar on “Specificity of cnidarian-algal symbiosis” on the 25th of January.
Karlheinz arrives in Germany
On January the 18th, Karlheinz together with Liz embarked on a long journey from California to Heidelberg. Both are still jet lagged, but slowly get used to the snow, sauerkraut and pork knuckle. Welcome to Germany!
